Stirling Road Spanish Baptist Church begins construction phase

New entrance to Stirling Road Spanish Baptist Church

Dr. Minshew recently visited with Pastor Alberto Perez at Stirling Road Baptist Church. Construction at the church, long dreamed of by the congregation, has begun.  This ambitious project will add 100 seats, a more efficient worship flow as well as additional classroom space.

The $1.2 million project is advancing through the savings of the church and through financing arranged through the Church Growth Investment Fund.  Dr. Minshew had recommended that the church look into this possibility of financing.  CGIF is a win/win for the church and for the expansion of the kingdom of Christ.  Interest charged on CGIF loans is used in two ways: first, to pay interest to investors (churches and individuals) who place their money in accounts at CGIF at a fair return; second, to increase the amount of funds available for lending to other churches to purchase property or build.

We are excited to follow the progress of this building project at this great Gulf Stream Baptist Association church.

February Partnership Events with the North American Mission Board

February 24-27, Gulf Stream will host North American Mission Board church planter, Jean-Marc Princivil and his family.  Jean-Marc and his wife, Myra, are planting Source de Vie church in Sherbrooke, Quebec.  On February 25, Jean-Marc will lead a seminar in French on the bridges to crossing the racial and cultural barriers he faces in Quebec.  Our hope is that these same bridges might be used by our French speaking Haitian community to be able to better share the gospel with snowbirds who come to us each year from Quebec. Learn more about Jean-Marc at http://princivil.com/.  More details will emerge soon about the events of February 25.

Dr. James Peoples, the immediate past president of the Florida Baptist Convention, is now serving as an ambassador for the North American Mission Board.  He will be hosting a luncheon for our pastors on February 27.  Details about this luncheon will emerge soon.  (We will hear from Jean-Marc as well!) If you are a pastor or staff member in a GSBA church, please mark your calendar for this date at 11:30 AND let us know that you will want to attend.  You may call 954-583-0339 and leave a message on Extension 501, email us at office@gsba.org or register in the on-line registration at gsba.org.

Welcome to Currents (or welcome back)

For many years, Gulf Stream Baptist Association sent out a regular newletter.  The title of the newsletter was clever.  Since the association draws its name from the major ocean current, the Gulf Stream, the title became "Currents".  The newsletter has only gone out sporadically in recent years.

This blog will serve as a both/and.  All of the information for Currents will be developed here as Currents NOW and these posts will become the monthly Currents Newsletter. Our hope is that the powerful ministry that the Lord is developing in Gulf Stream will begin to resonate with you as you pray for the Director, Dr. Don Minshew; our administrative assistant, Dr. Zeronie Grant; and for the openings that the Lord gives to us to serve our churches and our common vision for the advance of the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ.
